We are delighted to present « Plantain Island », Austin Uzor’s first solo exhibition in France. The exhibition will take place from April 27th until May 21st and will broadcast a new body of works by the Nigerian and US based artist.
Born in 1991 in Nigeria and now based in Texas, U.S.A, Austin Uzor paintings mainly explore the theme of human displacement and what the artist describes as “the idea of having a home while feeling homeless”. Uzor’s work is indeed deeply personal and engages with his own experiences of migration to the United States of America in 2016.
Part abstract, part figurative, his compositions bring us into a universe filled with symbolism, religion and spirituality.
The atmospheric scenery and color language, the use of architectural structures, forms, and recurring figures in unrecognizable spaces reveal the therapeutic and introspective aspects of his practice.
