Austin Uzor explores the world of the unknown by means of psychological spaces, feelings, and alternate realities in search of existential truths.
Born in 1991 in Nigeria and now based in Texas, U.S.A, Austin Uzor paintings mainly explore the theme of human displacement and what the artist describes as “the idea of having a home while feeling homeless”. Uzor’s work is indeed deeply personal and engages with his own experiences of migration to the United States of America in 2016, at the age of 25.

Uzor works across media including drawing, painting, sculpture and installations.

Part abstract, part figurative, his compositions bring us into a universe filled with symbolism, religion and spirituality. The atmospheric scenery and color language, the use of architectural structures, forms, and recurring figures in unrecognizable spaces reveal the therapeutic and introspective aspects of his practice.

In 2013, Austin Uzor received his Bachelor of Fine Arts in Drawing and Painting from the Nsukka University, Nigeria. In 2021, he graduated from the University of North Texas with a Master of Fine Arts in Drawing and Painting.
